Situated south west of Kariba town on the southern foreshore of the vast Lake Kariba, is Bumi Hills Safari Lodge and Spa. Known as “the lodge on top of the hill” Bumi Hills faces onto Lake Kariba and Starvation Island. It is one of the larger and more luxurious lodges in the Kariba area and is more like a hotel than a safari lodge due to its many facilities including a spa and conference room. With this in mind, we recommend combining a stay at Bumi Hills with a more rustic, smaller safari lodge so that you can experience the diversity that Lake Kariba has to offer.

There are fourteen ‘Premium Residences’ which are the lake facing rooms and set just behind these are ten ‘Garden Rooms’ situated in the lush, green gardens with a glimpse of the lake. The Premium Residence rooms literally hang off the escarpment with sublime views over Kariba from the deck; the garden rooms include a small verandah with seating. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with either a shower over the bath or separate shower and bath as well as air-conditioning. The guest areas at the main lodge are centred round a magnificently set infinity pool. There is a lounge and a separate television room, dining room (bush and terrace dining is available), bar and terrace.

Activities available include game viewing by boat or open safari vehicles, sunset cruises, bird watching, cultural tours, fishing, platform and hide sits, anti-poaching patrols, a trip to Kariba town, and for those that want to relax at the lodge there is the Kukondwa Spa.
